ANNOUNCEMENT

 

1. Participation rules

A1.  Everybody is entitled to participate in the 44th Athens Models and Miniatures Show / IPMS-Hellas Nationals, regardless of being an IPMS club member or not.

A2.  Participation is free for  IPMS paid-up members and minors under 18 years of age.  For non-members, or non-paid-up members, participation fee is set to 10€ for the first exhibit and 5€ for every additional one, regardless the total number of exhibits.  For group entries of non-IPMS clubs, the fee is set to 5€ per each model/exhibit being part of the group entry.  For oversized exhibits (larger than 50x50cm or ships larger than 120cm in length), the fee is set to 15€ (see also paragraph A.8).  The amount is paid in Euros upon submission of the exhibits. No credit, debit or pre-paid card is accepted.

A3.  Pre-registration

Α3.1   Pre-registration of exhibits/models is mandatory. Once submission period starts, an online application will be running at our web site. In the provided entry form, participants must include all models’ details (title / scale / category / class / model manufacturer / glued to base / eligible for a Special Theme/ Tribute or other Special award / Greek subject /oversized model/ comments). On the comments field, general comments or construction details may be included, such as use of after-market or conversion sets or other improvements made.                                                 

Α3.2  The beginning of submission period will be announced separately in due time. Deadline is set on Tuesday October 21st 2025 24:00 local time (Time Zone: GMT/UTC + 03:00 hour - Daylight Saving Time). Still, it is at the discretion of the Organizing Committee to not accept any more entries the moment after the available exhibiting area has been fully reserved.

Exhibits that haven’t been preregistered shall not be accepted to the expo/competition.

Α3.3   In exceptional cases, which shall be examined on site by the Organization Committee, not pre-registered exhibits may be accepted, but with a additional  imposed fine of 10 € per exhibit. This fine applies to all participants.

A4.  Admission - return of exhibits, Exhibition timetable

Α4.1  Admission of exhibits  starts on Thursday, October 23rd  2025 (18:00-22:00) and continues on Friday, October 24th 2025  (10:00 to 22:00).  Pre-registered models being delivered after deadline expires shall also be accepted for the show, but they will be placed at out of competition (ΕΣ) class and will not be eligible to any IPMS award Exemption can be made only for contestants coming from distant parts of Greece or from abroad, by the condition that they have submitted during pre-registration a special request.  All exhibits will be returned to their owners, strictly on Sunday October 26th, 2025 between 17:30 and 20:30 in the afternoon.  

Α4.2  The Exhibition will be open to the public as follows :

  • Friday 24.10.2025            12:00 to 22:00 
  • Saturday 25.10.2025        09:00 to 22:00
  • Sunday  26.10.2025          09:00 to 17:30 

Α4.3  Entry ticket is valid for 3 days and costs three (3) Euros, for all visitors over 18 years old. Admission for all participants and paid-up IPMS-Hellas members is FREE.

Entrance is subject to any Restriction Directions that may have been imposed by the Greek Ministry of Health during the dates of show.

Α4.4  Awards wining list of 44th Athens Models and Miniatures Show / IPMS-Hellas Nationals will be published on the morning of Sunday October 26th, 2025. A short award ceremony will be held later on at 17:00, strictly for the best model of each category and for the best model of the show.  Rest of awarded participants will receive their awards when taking back their models.   

Α4.5  Return of the exhibits is strictly on Sunday October 26th 2025 between  17:30  and 20:30. From 17:30 to 18:30 priority will be given to distant participants exclusively. After 20:30 the Organizing Committee shall no longer be responsible for the safekeeping of any remained model.

A5.  Strict order of priority shall be taken during the arrival of the exhibits. Once the available space has been taken up, only pre-registered models shall be accepted.

A6.    Models participating in the competition must be the handwork of the participating modelers. Models built by third parties shall be placed at the out of competition (ΕΣ) class (see paragraph B.5)

A7.  Models that have participated and been awarded in previous IPMS-Hellas competitions, shall be placed at out of competition (ΕΣ) class, unless there are part of a theme collection.

Α8.  If a model or its base are larger than 50x50 cm, or the length of a ship model exceeds the 120cm long, it is then mandatory for dimensions to be mentioned on the pre-registration.  Considering the fact that each time we place a model on table, we keep around it an additional safety zone of 5 cm wide free space, makes to us very difficult to accept non pre-stated oversized exhibits.

In case of a pre-stated oversized exhibit, participation fee is set to 15€.  This fee applies to all participants except paid-up IPMS members.

In case of a non pre-stated oversized exhibit, Organizing Committee reserves the right either to accept or reject it, according to available space. If accepted, a fine of 10 Euros will be added to the fee. This fine applies to all participants regardless their status.

A9.  It is at the discretion of the Organizing Committee to not accept any entries that may offend public sentiment.

A10.  On the 44th Athens Models and Miniatures Show / IPMS-Hellas Nationals, the following Special themes and Anniversary tributes have been added to the regular competition subjects:

  1. Aegean Corsairs - Hellenic Air Force A-7 Corsairs 
  2. Hellenic Army "M series" Tanks
  3. Comics

Further information on special themes is given at paragraph C8.2

 

2. Categories – Classes of the Competition

B1.   Participants bear the sole responsibility for placing an entry the pre- registration form in the right category and class. In the event of an incorrect registration, Judges’ Committee shall place the model out of competition class (see paragraph B.5).

B3.  Competition Classes

There are four (4) classes in all above categories:

  • "N1" (Junior 1) for young modelers up to 12 years of age,
  • "N2" (Junior 2) for young modelers aged 12 to 18,
  • "E" (Standard) for adults, and
  • "Π" (Master) for experienced modelers.

B4.    Experienced modeler is considered anyone who has earned in previous IPMS competitions, more than 3 gold medals in the same category. Competing in the Master class is compulsory for everyone included on the list of experienced modeler that is being kept and updated by the Organizing Committee. In addition, anybody else who wishes compete in the Master class is allowed to do so. Bear on mind however, that stricter award criteria apply to the "Π" (Master) class.   

B5.  Models may also participate in the expo at a class named out of competition (ΕΣ). The participation fee shall be the same as those of the competing entries. Models placed as out of competition are not eligible for any award sponsored by IPMS-Hellas.

B6.  Judges are NOT permitted to compete and are obliged to participate in the out of competition (ΕΣ) class with one exhibit at least.

Β7.  Once the class and the category of a model has been filled in the exhibition entry card, no changes shall be made by the participant

B8.  The Organizing Committee reserves the right to:

a) modify the above categories if deemed necessary.

b) move a participant to another class if deemed necessary.

Β9.  Clarifications on the above & Definitions

Β9.1  Models made of woodresinmetalPVC and relevant plastic materials are also eligible to participate in the competition, as long as they share a common assembly procedure with plastic kits.

Β9.2    Ready made models, i.e. not kits are accepted only if they have undergone substantial conversion and improvements or if they are part of a diorama setting. Please note that 1:1 scale models of weapons shall not be accepted.

Β9.3conversion is defined as the total work resulting in a model of different sub-type to that provided by the kit. An alternative paint scheme or the use of markings other than those provided by the kit is not considered a conversion.

Β9.4 An extensive conversion (e.g. a soft-skin vehicle with new bodywork or a tank with a scratch-built turret etc) is defined as the model 50% and above of which is not made up of commercially available parts. The use of commercially available conversion kits is not considered an extensive conversion.

Β9.5 A model is defined as scratch build , when  main components (e.g. aircraft fuselage and wings, tank hull and turret etc) are not made up of commercially available parts but have been built by the modeler in any way except 3d printing.

Β9.6  For modifications, extensive conversions and scratch builds, points are awarded for the accuracy / realism of the final result and not the amount of effort that has been put into the model.

Β9.7  Any kind of  base is allowed by the condition it does not exceed  model's dimensions by more than 5 cm all around.

Β9.8 A diorama is defined as a model or a group of models on a common base, which depicts an activity or a situation in a relevant environment. A diorama is judged as to its central concept and the depiction of its individual components and not according to its scale or size.

Β9.9  A "Theme collection" is defined as a group of four (4) or more models provided they share a common theme, which shall be clearly described in the entry form.

 

3. Judging

C1.  In all competition categories, models are being judged by a committee of a minimum of three (3) persons. Judges are IPMS Hellas members, specialized in the field they are judging. Their names shall be published on the IPMS-Hellas website at least two months prior to the event. Smooth operational of  Judges' Committee is ensured by the Chief Judge, who shall be appointed by the competition's Organizing Committee and the IPMS-Hellas Executive Committee.

C2. Judges' Committee members act under the standard procedures and terms  that laid down by the IPMS Hellas Competition Judging Regulations manifest (separately announced).  Each judge shall award marks using a Rating Scale from 0 to 100. Terms and criteria of rating vary, depending on the category group and modeler’s class . Models shall be rated and awarded according to their total score (Average / MO).

C3.  If a model satisfies the terms and criteria announced at Judging Regulations manifest and succeeds a score above 70 points, it is then eligible for a competition award. As the  “Open” competing  system applies in our show, every model that shall score over 70 points will be warranted adequate for gold, silver or bronze medal.  Therefore there is no limit to awards per category. Commendations may also be given by the discretion of Judges' Committee.

C4.  Judges' Committee will gather on  Friday October 24th and Saturday October 25th to judge models and provide results to the OC until 19:00 on Saturday afternoon. After the expiry of this deadline, no judge is entitled to change its assessment.

C5.  The results for the 44th Athens Models and Miniatures Show / IPMS-Hellas Nationals shall be announced on Sunday morning, October 26th 2025. Following the completion of the Judges' Committee workresults  are treated as final and irrevocable 

C6. At the same morning, from 10.00 AM to 12.00 AM, participants may meet with designated representatives of the Judges' Committee to have an additional advice on their models.

C7.  Objections on matters concerning the competition shall be accepted only for serious misconduct and breach of rules and shall be immediately dealt with by the Organizing Committee and the IPMS-Hellas Executive Committee.

C8.  Special awards

C8.1 The Judges' Committee shall addiotally award the following subjects:

C8.1.a    Regardless of category:

Best greek subjects’ entries in Aircraft, Military, Naval, Civilian and Figure categories.

C8.1.b In each category:

 Award ("Best Category") for the best exhibit in the category , i.e.: Best Aircraft, Best Military Model, Best Naval model, Best Civilian model, Best figure, Best Fantasy /Miscellaneous and Best Diorama (regardless of subject).

C8.1.c    Regardless of category:

Best of the Show award, this shall be selected by a special vote among the Best Category awards selected by the Judges:

C8.2 Awards for Special themes – Anniversary tributes, regardless of category:

  • Award for the best Aegean Corsairs- HAF A-7 Corsairs will be given to the best model or diorama of a HAF A-7 Corsair (bicentenial Corsairs included).
  • Award for the best Hellenic Army M series Tank will be given to the best model or diorama of all subtypes of Hellenic Army M-24s, M-47s, M-48s and M-60sc 
  • Award for the best Comic excibit, will be given to the best exhibit depicting figures, mechanical means or dioramaw that have been illustrated on comics or animations.

C8.3 Other Special Awards.

  • IPMS Cyprus. IPMS Cyprus awards the Best exhibit via representation.
  • The "George Dorkofikis Award" for the best Civil Aircraft exhibit, in honor of the IPMS Hellas Executive Committee member George Dorkofikis, who passed away so prematurely.
  • The "Alekos Haitoglou Award" for the best Greek Armor exhibit, in honor of Alekos Haitoglou, an Honorary IPMS Hellas member, who passed away so prematurely.
  • The "Babis Drizos Award" for the best Civil Diorama exhibit, in honor of the IPMS Hellas member Babis Drizos , for his great contribution to IPMS Hellas.
  • The "Diamantis Nikolaou Award" for the best Vietnam War exhibit, in honor of Diamantis Nikolaou, an IPMS Hellas member, who passed away so prematurely.
  • The "Elias Daloumis Award" for the best Greek exhibit, sponsored by the founder of IPMS Hellas, Mr. Elias Daloumis.
  • The "Nikos Kountouris Award" for the best Naval Diorama exhibit in honor of Nikos Kountouris an IPMS Hellas member who passed away so prematurely
  • The "Costas Marselos Award" for the best Naval Aviation exhibit in honor of Costas Marselos who passed away so prematurely
  • The "Evangelos Platakis Award" for the best vintage scale model that has been produced prior to 1990 in honor of Evangelos Platakis who passed away so prematurely
  • The "Dimitrios Vrettos Award" for the best historical figure in honor of Dimitrios Vrettos who passed away so prematurely
  • The "Ioannis Terzidis Award" for the best IDF exhibit in honor of Ioannis Terzidis who passed away so prematurely
  • The "Nikolaos Tselepidis  Award" for the best Fleet Air Arm / RNAS  exhibit in honor of Nikolaos Tselepidis who passed away so prematurely

C8.4   Special prizes may also be awarded by sponsors, guests clubs etc, at their absolute responsibility as to the choice of models and the type of award. The Organizing Committee must be informed of these awards no later than Saturday 28th October 2023 at 19.00, via a special form that shall be available for this purpose, so that they may be included in the program in time for the awards ceremony. Exceptionally. these special awards may also be awarded to exhibits in the out of competition (ΕΣ) class.

4. Various

D1.  The Organizing Committee reserves the right to dispose of gifts donated by the sponsor's according to its own judgement. The prize draws and the lottery will be held on Sunday October 26th 2025 at 14:00.

D2.   The Organizing Committee reserves the right to modify any of the above articles according to its own judgement and if the situation demands this.

D3.   There is going to be a special announcement regarding any more events that may take place simultaneously and at the same venue as the 44th Athens Models and Miniatures Show / IPMS-Hellas Nationals. Again this is subject to any Restriction Directions that may have been imposed by the Greek Ministry of Health during the dates of show.

D4.  By participating  in the competition,  implies  full knowledge and acceptance of all the above 

       terms and rules.

D5.    General Operational Rules for the Exhibition

D5.1    The whole exhibition area is to the absolute responsibility of the Organizing Committee (OC), whose members retain the right to remove from the halls any person not conforming to the operational rules that have been set by O.C. and exhibition area owner Technopolis SA , any person who does not comply with their instructions, does not maintain a correct and courteous behavior and finally who does not comply with Restriction Directions ruled out by the Greek Ministry of Health the days of the show.

D5.2    Photography and video recording of the exhibits is permitted. For the safety of exhibits, photographers should not approach very close to exhibits, compulsorily wear any camera wrist/neck straps and not have any other loose hanging straps or objects.  The use of a tripod is permitted only after following the notification of the Organizing Committee's responsible person.

D5.3   It is forbidden for visitors and exhibitors to touch any exhibits for the duration of the expo. The same applies for the judges, with the exception of the period during which the judging takes place and only with the use of special gloves. Anyone wishing to correct something on an exhibit or make a suggestion about the position of the exhibit may do so only by contacting the members of the Organizing Committee.

D5.4   Within the exhibition halls of exhibits, the following are strictly prohibited:

  • Smoking and vaping (use of electronic cigarettes)
  • Carrying and consumpting any kind of foodstuffs and drinks.
  • Entering / Carrying of pets
  • Carrying of bulky items which  Organizing Committee  considers them dangerous to the exhibits.

D5.5     It is prohibited for anyone to lean on the exhibition tables or  place personal belongings on them.

D5.6     A visitor's presence inside  the exhibition halls implies the knowledge, full acceptance and conformance  to all the above rules.
